Signs You May Need a New Dental Filling to Replace Your Old OneIf you have ever had a dental filling to repair a cavity, you should be aware of the fact that eventually, fillings need to be replaced. Today we will look at some of the signs you should be looking for if you think that you may need to have your old fillings replaced.

Out With The Old
Occasionally, you will have no question in your mind that you need to have a filling replaced. Perhaps it fell out and you can feel the exposed part of your tooth, that is a good indication that you should call us immediately and come in to have your filling replaced. But it is not always that easy or obvious to see that your fillings need to be replaced.

Traditional silver fillings, while they have been commonly used for over one hundred years, still do need to be replaced. They do last longer than tooth colored composite fillings, but eventually, they can become loose and will need to be examined, removed and replaced.

If you are experiencing tooth sensitivity when you eat or drink very hot or very cold foods, it could be that you need to have a filling replaced. Another symptom to be aware of is an uneven bite. If your filling has become loose, it can cause your bite to be misaligned, resulting in headaches, TMJ, jaw and facial muscular pain and overall discomfort. A single small thing such as a filling sitting too high or a loose filling can cause a lot of discomfort.

The best way to ensure that your fillings are in great shape is to keep coming to see us! Twice a year cleanings include a full examination where we thoroughly check your existing fillings to make sure that everything is still in good shape. Give us a call today!
