Let’s face it; no one likes wearing traditional dentures. They are uncomfortable and can slip when one tries to eat or speak. While dentures are better than no teeth at all, they are certainly not a complete replacement for your natural teeth. Fortunately, technology has advanced to the point where we can use implants to support your dentures.

What Are Dental Implants?

Simply put, dental implants are titanium posts that are attached to your jaw, acting much like the root of a tooth and stimulating jawbone growth. Once the implants are firmly in place, dentures can be attached to the posts, creating a semi-permanent set of new teeth.  There are three ways to attach dentures to your implants. They are described below.

Bar-Retained Dentures

This implant treatment involves placing 3-4 implants in your jaw to create a firm base for your implant-supported dentures. Next, we attach a customized bar with a series of clips on it to the implanted posts. The clips are what connect the denture to the implants. This setup allows you to have firm, non-slip – yet still removable – dentures.

The bar-retained implant can be used to connect your dentures to both the upper and lower jaws. This treatment still allows for the denture to be removed from the mouth for cleaning. It’s also important to take care of the bar, which remains attached to the implants in the mouth.

If you are using an over-denture in the top part of your mouth, we can often create a horseshoe design, so the denture doesn’t cover the roof of your mouth. This makes getting the full sensory experience while you’re eating easier. Plus, you won’t have to re-learn how to speak normally as no dentures are going to be impeding your tongue’s movement.

Ball-Retained Dentures

With this treatment, we place multiple implants in the jaw at specific intervals. Your dentures are then secured to the dental implant posts using a ball and socket mechanism.

Much like bar-retained dentures, ball-retained dentures are removable. You can clean your dentures and then brush the balls that attached them to your dental implants.

Additionally, any implant supported dentures that are placed correctly don’t slip or shift, making everyday activities much more comfortable.

All-On-4® Full Mouth Dental Implants

All-on-4® dental implants are the ideal solution for anyone who wants to “set and forget” their dentures. This setup allows for the denture to be semi-permanently connected with the implant base, so that you don’t have to remove the dentures – ever. The only time the denture would be removed is for its quarterly in-office cleaning. The All-on-4® solution is the no-hassle solution many patients wearing dentures today have been hoping for.
